I sent my recent conference paper to the one prof I have had difficult dealings with. I was proud of this document…the analysis poured out of my fingers a lot more smoothly than originally and I thought I had some interesting things to say.
Well, he sent me extended feedback. I should point out that number one he very carefully couched his language throughout in a very academic way. He did not agree with any of my conclusions, but it could be an academic disagreement instead of about my race (which is what he made it about after my exams). This bodes well for future conversations between the two of us.
But, again, he did not agree with any of my conclusions….so I’m trying not to freak out. The paper included several new bits of analysis that I was going to work backward with through my dissertation, which is now mostly story, without a comprehensive thesis to tie all the bits together. He’s probably right in some of it…but I think I do have evidence for some of the ways I challenge previous scholars.
On another front, both laptops are threatening to fail again. E’s backlight has gone away, so he can’t see the screen. My wireless has died and there’s a couple of other things. I was going to wait to take my laptop in till after my draft is finished for repairs. I can use the desktop, but it’s not the same. Well, now E will need to use the desktop for the online course he is taking. I’m glad that my problem is not interfering with the function of the machine. HP needs to start paying attention to the long haul of their machines, not just the attractiveness.
